. The message to the customers even includes a portion of an account number that may appear to be legitimate. The customers are being given a phone number to call so the situation can be rectified. One of the numbers that is being provided as part of the scam is (352) 343-1700, this being the main number for all Lake County government offices. Several callers from out of state have recently called the number and upon receiving the recorded message, have recognized this as being a scam.
Lake County sheriff’s fraud detectives want to warn everyone of this scam and remind them to never release personal information unless they are confident that the person to whom it is being released has a legitimate need for such. Wachovia Bank has been contacted and representatives there say this is definitely a scam.
No reports have been received where victims have actually provided personal information or have actually been victimized. Nonetheless, the Sheriff’s Office is looking into the matter.
